Ms. Ortiz has been working with people of different ages and ethnic backgrounds for more than 20 years. She has a tremendous passion for advocating for all students, but has focused especially on English Language Learners, Special Education students, and foster youth. She has made it a priority to promote the advancement and mentorship of first-generation children. Having emigrated to the US from Mexico, Norma understands that immigrant families endure several hardships due to relocation and would like to help children of immigrants gain more opportunities to better succeed. She also understands their struggles in foreign systems, like school systems. Her personal experiences and the love for her daughter, Norma Arlene, motivate her to reach out to others in ways that inspire and motivate, pushing our school systems to deliver on the promise of public high quality public programs which pave the way to graduation and career success.
