We are so excited to welcome you to Mountaineer Basecamp, the Parent-Teacher-Community Organization (PTCO) dedicated to supporting Mayacamas Countywide Middle School, its students, teachers, staff and their families. As a vital part of the school community, our mission is to enrich the educational experience of every student through collaboration, involvement, and a strong sense of community.
At Mountaineer Basecamp, we believe that when parents, teachers, and the community work together, we can create a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students to thrive. Whether you are a parent, guardian, or community member, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference. Together, we strive to foster a welcoming school culture, provide valuable resources for students and teachers, and raise funds to support school programs that enrich the lives of our students.

Our Key Objectives and Activities
As a middle school PTCO, Mountaineer Basecamp’s activities and goals center around building a strong partnership between home, school, and the wider community. Our core initiatives include:
Fundraising

Annual Fundraisers: We organize various fundraising events throughout the year, including a school-wide auction, community sales, and family nights, to raise money for educational programs, field trips, and school resources.

Direct Donations: Encouraging families and community members to contribute directly to support the school's needs, from classroom supplies to technology upgrades.

Corporate Sponsorships & Grants: Building partnerships with local businesses and organizations to secure additional funding for school initiatives.
Volunteering

Classroom Assistance: Parents and guardians can volunteer to assist in classrooms with activities, projects, or tutoring.

Chaperoning Field Trips & Events: Volunteer to accompany students on educational field trips or to help supervise school dances, sports events, and other extracurricular activities.

Event Planning and Execution: Help organize school events such as open houses, staff appreciation days, and spirit weeks.
Teacher & Staff Support

Teacher Grants: Providing small grants for teachers to use toward classroom supplies or special projects.

Teacher Appreciation Events: Coordinating efforts to celebrate and thank our hard-working teachers and staff throughout the school year with gifts, special events, or lunch celebrations.
Community Building

Social Events: Hosting family nights, potlucks, and other social gatherings to strengthen relationships between families, teachers, and staff.

Parent Education Programs: Organizing workshops, informational sessions, or speaker events to provide parents with valuable tools and resources to support their child’s academic and personal growth.
Advocacy & Communication

School Improvement Projects: Collaborating with school leadership to help advocate for improvements in the school’s infrastructure, educational programs, and extracurricular offerings.

Clear Communication: Providing regular updates to parents through newsletters, emails, and social media, ensuring the entire community is informed about important school events and PTCO initiatives.
Student Enrichment & Activities

After-School Programs: Fundraising to support or expand extracurricular programs such as sports, music, drama, and clubs.

Student Recognition Programs: Promoting student achievements, from academic successes to acts of kindness, through awards, assemblies, and recognition events.
